When it comes to Christmas marketing for your hotel there are always the obvious, go-to offers and deals - but is that going to be enough this year?
Christmas is a joyful but often cheesy time of year. The Christmas sales and last-minute deals don’t exactly do your brand any favours and they seriously lack creativity. Guests have so many options these days too - brand loyalty is at an all-time low - and people are craving something new.
It’s tempting to follow in the footsteps of your industry but if you’re ready to try something a little different this Christmas, we’ve put together a list of creative ways for you to keep your rooms full and your restaurant busy…
Do something a little different with your Christmas marketing this year:
Get your audience engaged and excited on Instagram by hosting a countdown to Christmas. You could do this over the 12 days of Christmas, OR go all out and create an online advent calendar.
Each day you can reveal a surprise winner of a prize from your hotel or restaurant.
Increase the value of the prize each day and encourage guests to visit your hotel and tag you on social media for a chance to WIN.
On the last day offer something like a weekend stay for two at your hotel.
By increasing the value of the prizes each day you’ll keep the momentum going and continue to raise more awareness around your brand as more people hear about the competition.
Decoration photo competition
Offer a one night stay to the person that has the best Christmas decorations. In the run up to Christmas mention that you’ll be offering a prize to the person who tags you in the best Christmas decoration photo.
Christmas card design
If you happen to run a boutique, design-led hotel you could try asking your community to design this year’s Christmas cards that guests will receive in their room when they stay. This would give a designer an opportunity to get their work seen by your guests and be associated with your hotel. It’s also a nice, personalised touch for your guests.
You could then offer an exhibition of artwork at your hotel to the winner.
Instead of offering the typical mulled wine or discounted drinks menu why not try something a little more creative? There are some fantastic Christmas cocktail recipes out there, or if you have a talented mixologist perhaps you could create your own.
A speciality cocktail with the potential to be the next must-have could dramatically increase awareness of your hotel simply through word-of-mouth.
Get some great behind the scenes shots of your new cocktail being created then invite influencers in when you launch so they can help spread the word.
Christmas talking points
It’s normal to find a mint or chocolate on your pillow but what about something a bit more festive?
There’s nothing like going the extra mile to get your guests telling their friends about your hotel.
Try leaving your guests gingerbread men when they arrive or offering them complimentary afternoon mince pies.
You’ll be surprise at how quickly word spreads.
Get your guests involved with hotel decorations
Ask your audience on social media to vote for what should go on top of the Christmas tree this year, then invite the winner to come and help decorate the tree. Turn it into an event where guests can get involved too.
The perfect gift
Offer your community the chance to win a gift package that they can give to a loved one on Christmas day. If you state that the gift is to be used between 1st Jan and 1st March this also helps to boost sales in typically slower months.
Host Christmas themed events at your hotel and invite influencers along and/or to stay the night.
If you’re near Winter Wonderland it’s the perfect opportunity to keep the magic alive for your guests by providing them somewhere just as magical to stay.
Behind the scenes
Show your guests what goes on behind the scenes in the lead up to Christmas. People love authenticity and seeing the real humans behind the business.
Create emotive stories that follow individual members of your team and their input to making anyone’s stay at your hotel truly memorable.
Christmas is the time of year that hotels and restaurants can get really creative and make the most of everyone’s festive cheer! There’s no need to start discounting or throwing deals around just yet.
One of the most important things is starting early. Get your audience involved in the festivities early on and remember to create content that will help spread the word. Good photography, engaging video and well-written copy will be extremely important, especially on social media.
If you’re lacking attention grabbing content for your hotel and you’re worried the hotel around the corner has been photographing their delicious roast dinners and mulled wine cocktails since May then let’s talk!
